Introduction

Welcome to The House of Chess Web site. Our goal is to provide you with useful information about us in hopes that it makes it easier for us to do business together.

The House of Chess is a combination Chess Club and Retail Store all rolled into one convenient place - at a Mall! As a member of the House of Chess you can play for cash and prizes in our tournaments. In house we have 3 time former U.S. Champion Grandmaster Alex Shabalov as our Club Professional and he will be giving lectures, instructions and holding exhibitions.

We also have a newsletter written by Grandmaster Shabalov and another former U.S. champion and former Clevelander Alex Yermolinsky. The newsletter is for our members only and is bound to be an insight into recent competitive chess.

We also have one of the largest collection of chess books and equipment available at any club. We have books ranging from the latest releases to rare and antique books that were written in the early 1800's. If you are in our area please feel to browse these unique gems.

We also carry the latest in chess software including Chessbase 9, Junior, Shredder and Fritz as well as many of the Chess Assistant series software.

So if you want to train your brain, or just have a good time, come by and give chess a try. We have membership plans that will fit everyone's budget.

Thanks for visiting and we look forward to serving you.

Why so Special?

The House of Chess is a new concept chess club. With our location and goals we are a unique portal to the chess world. Most people who play occasionally normally do not have the means to get information about chess tournaments, instructions, books and even supplies. It is our mission to spread the value of chess to all those who have an interest in the royal game. We believe the best way to achieve this goal is to reach out to the casual player as well as the tournament player alike. The benefit for the casual player is that we are local and as easy as "going to the Mall" and the tournament player will surely find new partners to battle with. Important as well is the top class instruction that is available. It is not every day a casual player can take a lesson from a Grand Master.

Facts

Studies show that children who play chess do better in school. Studies also show that seniors who play are less likely to develop diseases such as Alzheimer's and Dementia. Playing chess is good way to train your brain, which needs a workout the same way the rest of your body does.
